«SOIL AS A COMPONENT OF THE BIOSPHERE: CURRENT ISSUES IN THE CONDITIONS OF CLIMATE CHANGE»
November 25 – 29, 2024
Pushchino, Moscow Region
Dear colleagues!
We invite you to take part in a scientific conference dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the birth of Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences V.A. Kovda.
Viktor Abramovich Kovda is one of the leaders of Russian soil science in the 20th century, an outstanding scientist and scientific and public figure of global significance, the organizer of a number of major international programs (Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, World Soil Map, Man and the Biosphere, international courses on combating desertification, etc.) within the framework of UNESCO, FAO, UNEP. President of the International Society of Soil Scientists (1968-1974), President of the Scientific Committee on Problems of the Environment (SCOPE) (1973-1976). Developed interdisciplinary approaches in soil science. He was the organizer and first director of the Institute of Agrochemistry and Soil Science of the USSR Academy of Sciences in Pushchino (now the Institute of Physical Chemistry and Biosphere Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences). Continuing the works of V.I. Vernadsky, Viktor Abramovich became the founder of the idea of the biosphere role of soils. He made a great theoretical contribution to the study of the problems of land aridization and combating desertification, soil resources, biogeochemical cycles, meliorative soil science, issues of genesis, evolution and cartography of soils.
The purpose of the conference is to discuss the results of research, current
problems and the latest trends in various areas of soil science, exchange of scientific information and experience of modern methods of soil research in the development of the ideas of Viktor Abramovich Kovda.
MAIN TOPICS OF THE CONFERENCE
- The role of soil in biogeochemical cycles of elements. Carbon and climate
-
Soil as a component of the biosphere in the past, present and future
-
Problems of desertification and soil salinization
-
Physicochemical and biological processes of soil formation and
transformation of natural and exogenous chemical substances in soils and
ecosystems -
The importance of the cryosphere in the global cycle of matter and energy,
conservation of genetic resources -
Modeling of soil processes and ecosystems
The conference program will be formed after the organizing committee receives registration forms and materials of the participants' reports and will be set out in subsequent information letters.
